Getting Hired

After you submit your application...

Application Screening

Your application is immediately accessible by the hiring department upon submission. Hiring departments review applications for minimum qualifications and rank candidates to determine who they would like to interview. If not selected, you will receive a notification when the position is filled. The length of the hiring process can vary based upon the needs of the individual hiring departments.

Interviews

The hiring manager will call to conduct a phone interview and/or schedule an interview. If your interview is in-person, ask the hiring department about parking or visit the parking website at shsu.edu/parking. Again, the interview process can vary based on upon the needs of the hiring department but the process will be consistent between applicants applying for the same position.

Background Check

If you are a finalist, Human Resources runs a background check to ensure eligibility of employment. All information obtained through a criminal background check is privileged and confidential and will not be released or disclosed to any unauthorized person.

Offer

If selected, the Hiring Department calls to offer you the position with a hiring salary and start date. Some departments may extend an offer prior to a background check. All offers are contingent on a successful background check.

Hiring Paperwork

If you accepted our offer, Human Resources emails you hiring paperwork to be completed electronically through Adobe Sign. To avoid unnecessary delays in hiring or receiving your first pay check, complete paperwork immediately upon receiving.

Begin Work

Your hiring paperwork must be complete before you can begin working. Human Resources will notify you when you are eligible to begin work. Faculty and staff are invited to new hire orientation to review benefits and procedures.
