Admission Requirements
You're automatically admitted if you meet one of the following:
- Unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher (with or without test scores).
- You're in the top 10% of your high school class.
- You meet these GPA/test score combinations:
- GPA: 2.5–2.99 with a 22 ACT or 1110 SAT.
- GPA: 2.25–2.49 with a 25 ACT or 1210 SAT.
- You're a dual credit student with a 2.5+ GPA and at least 12 transferable hours.
If you don’t meet these criteria, you can still apply! We’ll review your application holistically and may request a personal statement.
Thinking about transferring? Here’s what you need:
- 0-11 Hours: Meet freshman requirements & have a minimum 2.5 GPA on transferable hours.
- 12-17 Hours:Minimum 2.5 GPA on transferable hours.
- 18+ Hours: Minimum 2.0 GPA on transferable hours.
We accept up to 70 credit hours. See the SHSU Transfer Guide for course transferability.
We’re excited to welcome students from around the world! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Complete the ApplyTexas application.
- Pay the $90 international non-refundable application fee.
- Provide English proficiency scores: TOEFL, IELTS (minimum 6.5), or Duolingo - Scores must be less than 2 years old.
- Submit an evaluation of your international credentials.

Ready to take the next step? Here’s what you need for graduate admissions:
- Find your program: Visit shsu.edu/academics for program-specific requirements and deadlines.
- Apply online: Complete your application at shsu.edu/apply and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee ($90 for international applicants).
- Submit transcripts: Upload unofficial transcripts for review. Official transcripts, showing your degree and graduation date, are required once accepted into your program.
- Upload materials: Submit any additional materials required by your program via the SHSU Self-Service Center. See your program of study for specific submission deadlines.
