Frequently Asked Questions

  • After the upgrade, will my software still be available?

All software that is currently downloaded on your computer will stay. We are not removing any previously downloaded software.

  • What happened to my recent files?

    🗂 What's Changed:

    • "Recent files" and "Frequent folders" may no longer appear the same way they did previously.

    • In some cases, they might be hidden by default or moved under different sections depending on your settings or organizational policies.

    • Microsoft has been gradually integrating Windows Backup and OneDrive more deeply, which may also affect what shows up in Quick Access or Home.

    🗂 Recent Files Missing?

    • If you don't see your recent files:

      • Open File Explorer.
      • Click View in the top menu.

      • Select Show > Recent files to re-enable it (if it's turned off).

      • Or go to Quick Access (left sidebar) to see a familiar list of recent folders.

    • Recommended Section (New!)
If you're signed in with a Microsoft account or using OneDrive, you might see a Recommended section in Start or Explorer that highlights recently opened cloud-based files.

  • How do I fix my microphone issue?

Please try the following steps to remedy the issue:

    1. In your search bar at the bottom, type in Settings.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Once the settings come up, select sound.
    4. On the right-hand side, look for the Input section.
    5. Make sure that it is switched off at the bottom.

Contact the Service Desk if this doesn't fix your issue.

  • Where is the Microsoft Store?

With the recent Windows 11 update, access to the Microsoft Store will be disabled on university-managed devices. This change helps enhance system security, minimize distractions, and ensure consistent performance across all machines.

If you need software installed, please follow the TAP Process to request it.

  • I got a new computer after the Windows 11 update, where is my software?

All new computers issued after the Windows 11 update will not include any software that you previously downloaded when you log in. To reinstall any needed software, please contact the Service Desk for assistance. If you require additional software that hasn’t gone through the TAP process, the Service Desk can help guide you through it.
