Get Your Computer Ready for Windows 11

To help the upgrade install properly and prevent interruptions, complete the following steps before you leave:

Step 1: Back Up Your Files

Move anything important to OneDrive.

  • Check your Desktop, Documents, and Download folders for any files that need to be backed up.

  • Move anything you want to keep into OneDrive so it’s safe and can be accessed from anywhere.

While we do not expect file loss during the upgrade process, it could happen, which is why backing up your data is especially important.

Step 2: Sign Out, Leave On, Plug In

Before you head out:

  1. Sign Out of your computer (don’t shut it down).

  2. Leave it powered on.

  3. Plug it into a power source.

This helps the upgrade install properly while you're away. Logging off allows the process to begin, and keeping your computer on and plugged in prevents interruptions.

These simple steps will help ensure a smooth and successful Windows 11 upgrade.
