Windows 11 Introduction
Windows 11 is the latest operating system from Microsoft. It offers a sleek, modern interface designed to enhance productivity and streamline everyday tasks.
With a focus on performance, security, and a more intuitive user experience, Windows 11 brings a fresh look to the desktop while introducing a tone of new features.
Whether you're a student, faculty member, or staff, Windows 11 provides an optimized environment for both work and school, ensuring you stay connected and efficient.
Changes and New Features
Here Is The New Look
Windows 11 introduces a sleek new design with the Start button and taskbar icons now centered on the screen, giving it a more modern and streamlined appearance. If you prefer the classic layout, you can view our Taskbar Alignment tutorial to show you how to move the taskbar back to the left.
Widgets
Widgets What is a widget?
A widget is a small, interactive tool or application that displays information or offers quick access to certain features—right from your desktop or taskbar.
In Windows 11, widgets can show things like the weather, calendar events, news, sports scores, and more, all in one customizable panel you can access by clicking the Widgets icon on the taskbar. They’re designed to help you stay updated at a glance, without opening a bunch of separate apps.
Snap Layouts
A Snap Layout in Windows 11 is a quick way to organize open windows on your screen.
When you hover over the maximize button on any window, you'll see layout options to instantly "snap" that window into a grid—example: side-by-side, in quarters, or a three-column view—making multitasking easier and more efficient.
A Redesigned Settings App
The Settings app in Windows 11 has been completely redesigned with a cleaner layout, new icons, and improved navigation. It’s more organized and user-friendly, making it easier to find and adjust your system preferences.
Please note: Settings you change on one campus computer will not carry over to another. If you switch devices, you’ll need to adjust your preferences again if desired.
Multiple Desktops
The multiple desktops feature in Windows 11 lets you create separate virtual desktops for different tasks or projects.
You can have one desktop for work, another for school, and a third for personal use—each with its own open apps and windows. It’s like having multiple computer screens without needing extra physical monitors, helping you stay organized and focused by keeping different parts of your digital life neatly separated.
