The Creative Writing Emphasis

creative writingThe creative writing emphasis at Sam Houston State University gives students specialized training in creative writing at the same time that they are establishing a strong, graduate-level foundation in literature and language. The balanced creative, critical, and professional credentials prepare them well for entering a writing or editing profession or pursuing a terminal degree in creative writing and/or literature (MFA or PhD).

A student on the creative track takes two workshops in fiction and/or poetry, serves as an intern on the staff of Texas Review Press, and writes a creative thesis
