Dr. Sandy Hinkley
Dr. Sandy Hinkley directs the newly formed SHSU men’s choir. The men of SHSU are made up of non-music and music majors, singing a wide variety of music and having a generally amazing time. If you are a guy and like to sing, this group is for you.

Dr. Sandy Hinkley is the newly appointed Director of Choral Music Education and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Sam Houston State University. Sandy received a Ph.D. in Choral Conducting and Music Education from the Florida State University. Prior to her doctoral studies, Sandy taught choral music in Florida for 20 years. Ensembles under her direction have performed at ACDA State, Southern Division, and National Conferences and she has conducted honor choirs throughout the state of Florida.
Over the years, Sandy has supervised student teachers from various state universities and has served on a number of writing teams for secondary music curriculum. She has presented sessions at the FMEA Professional Development Convention, as well as at ACDA State, Southern Division, and National Conferences. Sandy is an active clinician and adjudicator, with research interests that include choral pedagogy, vocal modeling, music literacy and assessment, and teacher retention.
