In The Field

Students in the Environmental and Geosciences gain hands-on experiences in the field.

Geology courses routinely take students to gain field experiences in central Arkansas, the Arbuckle Moutains in Oklahoma, and much of Texas including the Hill Country, Bastrop, Whiskey Bridge, and the nearby Trinity River to name a few. In addition, Geology majors are required to take a two week Field Methods course in west Texas and New Mexico that teaches them the fundamentals of field geology.

Geography courses expose students to both the cultural and physical aspects of places near and far. The Hydrology and Field Studies courses regularly take students to places like water treatment plants, dams, and other locations where they will be able to learn about and practice recording data to monitor flooding, plot locations, monitor vegetation grow, and more. The Cultural Field Studies and Hawaii Field Course take students out in the field for a week, with seminars and research projects that occur the semester prior or after the field experience. International experiences/courses also occur.
