CAM Artist Series: Diego & Friends: A Soirée of Piano Trios
Presented by the College of Arts & Media
Apr. 24, 2023 | 7:30 p.m.
Recital Hall, Gaertner Performing Arts Center

As part of the 2022–2023 CAM Artist Series, SHSU School of Music assistant professor of piano Diego Caetano will perform a fascinating soirée of piano trios along with guest violinist Matt Lammers and guest cellist Caio Diniz.

The evening’s program consists of music by French composers Cécile Chaminade and Claude Debussy and composers who combine inspiration from French music with their homeland influence, including Henrique Oswald (Brazil) and Joaquín Turina (Spain).

Caetano is an award-winning Brazilian-American pianist with numerous top prizes in both national and international piano competitions and has had the honorable experience of working with notable and famed conductors. He is also the artistic director of the Ávila International Music Festival in Spain.

Lammers is a member of the Preparatory Violin Faculty at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and a member of the Axiom Quartet, Kinetic Ensemble, and Austin Camerata. In addition to playing regularly with Houston-based ensembles Mercury Chamber Orchestra and Musiqa, he is a founding co-director of the Opus 1 Chamber Music School, which attracts top pre-college string and piano students in Houston, and was awarded the City of Houston’s Support for Artists and Creative Individuals Grant for his role in the creation of new music.

Diniz is a Brazilian cellist and musician who joins his passion for new music and the expansion of the cello repertoire with his deep roots in Brazilian folk music. While in Brazil, he traveled the country performing traditional music with Quinteto da Paraíba. He is currently the chamber music manager at Rice University’s Sheperd School of Music, occasionally performs with the Houston-based ensemble Musiqa, and when not performing, works behind the scenes as a recording engineer collaborating with other artists.
