SHSU Receives Favorable Rankings from U.S. News & World Report

Sam Houston State University has once again placed among the best of the best in rankings from U.S. News & World Report. The new rankings reflect the university’s continued dedication to providing high-quality, affordable education to all. 

The university placed in the top 15% of universities nationwide. SHSU was also recognized among the top 20% of public schools (those receiving state funding), with strong placements for undergraduate programs in business (top 15%), nursing (top 20%) and psychology (top 19%), as well as being ranked in the top 5% for social mobility. 

The annual report lists the best colleges in the country, breaking down academic program performance, social mobility, student to professor ratios and other factors. The 2026 rankings evaluated more than 1,700 U.S. colleges and universities using up to 17 factors to measure academic quality and graduate success.

  • No. 257 in National Universities (tied)
  • No. 340 Undergraduate Nursing (tied)
