This means that every institution on earth is now in the “data business.” Professionals who can collect, manage, interpret, analyze, and communicate information based on data are more important than ever before.

As businesses, organizations, and governments continue to use data to drive decision-making, the demand for people to manage and analyze that data grows exponentially. No matter your career field, they will likely need data scientists.

Coursework

The coursework for the Data Science, BS is intended to introduce and continually refine students’ skills as they progress through the program levels.

Graduates will be proficient in the following professional skills:

  • Using critical thinking skills, along with inductive and deductive reasoning, to translate substantive questions into well-defined problems requiring effective, on-time solutions.
  • The competence and capacity for data collection, wrangling, and visualization techniques to solve real-world problems.
  • Programming and managing databases to organize and analyze data effectively, including capabilities for developing statistical/predictive modeling.
  • Applying statistical/machine learning techniques for model-building and testing while also effectively applying other data science methodologies to provide actionable insights.
  • Efficient and effective written and oral communication skills necessary for presenting problem solutions and results to data- and non-data-oriented stakeholders.
