Email Address Management

SHSU allows faculty, staff, and students to create an alias email address. Faculty and Staff may request up to three email aliases and students may request one email alias.

An email alias is an alternative email address that forwards to your primary email account without having its own mailbox. It's essentially a forwarding address that helps manage emails without revealing your primary email address.

Benefits:
Easier to Share: An email alias is often shorter, more personalized, and easier to remember than a default username, which may be a combination of letters, numbers, or symbols. For example, if your default email is xxx000@example.com, you could have an alias like name@example.com, which is much simpler to convey.

Memorability: Aliases are typically chosen to be easy to remember. This means that when you share your alias with someone, they're more likely to recall it when they need to contact you.

Conceals Your Username: An alias conceals your actual username or primary email address. This adds an extra layer of privacy and security, as it prevents others from knowing your full email address, which can be valuable information in certain contexts.

Your off-site email address will enable you to take advantage of new self-service tools such as resetting your password when it expires.
