I think SHSU is great because there are so many reasons! The campus is beautiful and full of history. The people you meet and interact with are so welcoming that you instantly feel at home. The environment gives you all of the experiences of a larger university, but the support and services of a small private school.

Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy running, hiking, listening to live music, spending time with family and friends, eating, and traveling. I also enjoy following the Bearkat Football team.

Favorite class in college: Philosophy of Coaching with Dr. Emily Roper

Favorite place on campus: Old Main Pit

Favorite restaurant in Huntsville: Carbonero Rotisserie – you have to try the Pupusas and Chaufa Rice!

My advice to you: Remember that choosing a college is your choice and your chance to learn and discover more about yourself. Aside from all of the external pressures you may be facing, keep your goals at the forefront of the decisions you make. So with that said, as you research colleges and find out what makes them different, make sure it aligns with your goals and objectives.

I think SHSU is great because even with a population of over 21,000 students, each person is still cared about and not just a number in the crowd. It is so easy to build connections with students, faculty, and staff.

I think SHSU is great because it is continuously growing and changing and yet the students, faculty, staff, and alumni remain some of the most humble and hardworking people I have met.

Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy working out (find me at the Rec Center bright and early), traveling, cooking/baking, and spending time with family and friends.

Favorite class in college: My favorite class was part of my master’s curriculum; Leadership in Higher Education. It covered leadership theories and models and how this information was necessary in developing as a leader in higher education.

Favorite place on campus: The Quad because it is the original/historical portion of campus.

Favorite restaurant in Huntsville: Five Loaves for a couple of reasons; the food is good, you will probably run into someone you know, and the owners are great people!

My advice to you: Start building your network by meeting students from different walks of life, talk with professors before and after class, and connect with staff. If you are able to get a job on campus you can easily become connected with many of the university employees. Show them your strong work ethic and they will be your biggest supporters!
