Student Reflection - Melissa Ashworth

Melissa AshworthBeing a part of this project has allowed me to learn how to work on a business team as well as the ins and outs of how to best manage different situations. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to create something that has the possibility to cause massive impact not only here in the United States but also all around the world. I also have the ability to travel around the world to conduct research and meet other people who want to make a change.

My childhood dream was to have world peace, I even asked for it for Christmas. Even though this project is not bringing world peace it is bringing knowledge and assistance to those who need it the most. By bringing knowledge to a community I am able to actively change people’s lives by teaching them about the importance of sanitation and proper trash disposal. I am looking forward to interacting with other cultures and helping them enhance their lives by showing them another way to live. I believe that the knowledge we are proving will not only enhance the cleanliness of their communities but also translate into better health which can bring more productivity and increase people’s quality of life.

Most people don’t consider cleanliness a factor in community development, but proper sanitation and waste disposal are crucial factors in order for a society to be stable. Happiness and motivation start with health, and in unsanitary environments people are sick far more often than in unsanitary ones. Disease spreads through water and decaying biological material, and trash piles in the street are breeding grounds for disease that people must interact with daily. This program will minimize trash in the streets and in homes, allowing for people to commute in cleaner, safer, more beautiful environments daily.
