About TEDxSHSU

SHSU is proud to be hosting the second annual TEDxSHSU on November 2, 2023.

TEDxSHSU is a locally organized event that brings the spirit of TED - “Ideas Worth Spreading” - to Sam Houston State University and our surrounding region. The event features students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders and highlights the rich expertise, creativity, and innovation occurring in our region. TEDxSHSU opens thought-provoking dialogues, sparks thinking, and catalyzes our imaginations.

As a service to our university and community, TEDxSHSU invites everyone to attend and engage. We aim to create an inclusive, accessible space open to a range of ideas, perspectives, and worldviews.

------------------------------

In Fall 2021, a three-person faculty team began laying the groundwork to bring TEDxSHSU to our campus and applied for a university license from TED. The license was granted in Spring 2022. We are proud to be one of only a few universities in Texas to be officially licensed to host a TEDx event.

------------------------------

TEDxSHSU is generously supported by the SHSU Honors College. For several years, the Honors College has offered a course, HONR 3322 - Journeys: TED Talks, which examines TED as a cultural phenomenon and helps undergraduate students examine TED Talks from various perspectives. In addition, TEDxSHSU is supported by partnerships with campus offices and departments.

TEDxSHSU is coordinated by a faculty organizing team, with support from the Honors College and volunteers across campus.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.
