Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation

Sam Houston State University and the College of Education have a longstanding tradition of showcasing excellence in educator preparation through accreditation with state, regional, and national accrediting bodies.  The university was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1925 as an institution of higher learning and in 1954, the educator preparation program was among the first accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Throughout the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, the university has continued to expand its offerings to keep pace with its dynamic environment by adding degree programs at all levels.

The College of Education has maintained accreditation with NCATE since 1954, and seeks to maintain this longstanding tradition as NCATE has transitioned to the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
