Eligibility
A total of 165 students are served each year. Approximately two-thirds of the students are identified as income eligible and first-generation students or students with disabilities. The remaining one-third is identified as either income eligible or first-generation individuals.
Participants must satisfy all of the follow criteria to be considered for entry into the program.
- Enrolled at SHSU and working on their first bachelor degree
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Have an academic need for our program
- Be one or more of the following:
- FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT - Neither parent graduated with a four year college degree. If a parent attended college and did not graduate with a Bachelors degree then this student would qualify under first-generation status. If a parent attended college, received an Associate's Degree or technical certification but did not earn a four-year degree (Bachelors degree), the student would also be first-generation.
- "Parent" refers to the student's natural or adoptive parents and does not include grandparents, stepparents, and guardians. If the student did not reside with or receive support from the parents before the age of 18, the student is considered first generation.
- INCOME ELIGIBLE STUDENT - The following guidelines are based on taxable income: Federal TRIO Programs Annual Income Eligibility Levels.
- STUDENT WITH DISABILITIES - Documentation must be submitted to verify a disability.
- FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT - Neither parent graduated with a four year college degree.
