Laura Dougherty has been with SHSU since 2009 as Fitness Director of Campus Recreation and is currently the Exercise Science Internship Coordinator. She teaches course in Kinesiology and received a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from McNeese State University.
Her background is in Fitness and Fitness Management where she has performed as a team member to a manager in Hospital Wellness and Corporate Wellness. Currently she still teaches Pilates, Barre & Yoga and does Fitness Coaching. Holding numerous certifications in group exercise and personal training (ACSM, Stott, TRX, etc.). The main focus of being an Internship Coordinator is to help students gain real world experience prior to graduation through internships in a clinical and/or wellness environment. Coaching students along their path in careers through mentorship, guidance and professional preparation. We work alongside with Affiliates in Cardiac Rehabilitation, Physical & Occupational Therapy, Fitness/Wellness Management and Sports Performance.
