To assist in the transition from life at home to life on the SHSU campus, all "beginning" first year students are required to live in university residence halls and participate in a meal plan during their first year (normally includes Fall and Spring semesters).
A "beginning" first year student (including a first year transfer student) is defined as a student who has graduated from high school the previous year to attending Sam Houston State University. For example, if you graduate from high school between September 2015 - June 2016, you are required to live on-campus Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.
Students may request an exception to this policy by completing a Request for Waiver of the First Year Required Housing and Meal Plan Policy and submitting the proper documentation.
Residence Hall Tours
Effective September 3rd, 2015: Residence hall showroom tours will be suspended during the Fall 2015 semester. We are giving tours of Lone Star Hall Lobby, FAMC and Old Main Market. Please contact us at (936) 294-1812 for additional information.
Students choose the specific room where they wish to reside and can make room changes until shortly before move-in. Room selection timeslots are determined by the date SHSU receives the student application and deposit, as well as verification of bacterial meningitis vaccination.
Students also have the opportunity to find roommates using the housing portal. Confirmed roommates will receive a common date of priority to enter the portal to select a room.
