Scholarships and Awards

To Apply for the Following Scholarships:

Scholarships are awarded annually each Spring and are distributed over two semesters (Fall and Spring) contingent upon enrollment and solid academic standing.

APPLICATION PROCESS

1. Submit an application to Scholarships4Kats (mandatory) (http://www.shsu.edu/dept/financial-aid/scholarships/)
2. The following three documents are recommended.
(1) Letter of Application
(2) Unofficial SHSU Transcript
(3) One Letter of Recommendation

University General Scholarships: November 1st, 2021
Sociology Specific Scholarships: November 15th, 2021


Professor Ramsey M. Woods Sociology Endowment Fund (Undergraduate)

Awarded each semester to full-time undergraduate students, in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University; and majoring in Sociology. Financial need will be a consideration, but not a determining factor. An overall GPA of at least 3.2 is required.


Dan and Donna Beto Endowed Scholarship in Sociology 

One annual scholarship of $1,000. Recipients must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student (with preference given to graduate students) in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University; and majoring in Sociology. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 is required. Financial need will be a consideration, but not a determining factor.


Garry and Marjorie Prince Sociology Scholarship
Recipient must be full-time student, in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University; majoring in Sociology; demonstrating financial need; and maintaining an overall GPA of at least 3.0. 


Walter & Minnie Bennett Scholarship
Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) student in good standing; enrolled at Sam Houston State University; majoring in sociology; demonstrate a particular interest in the study of Marriage and the Family or Community. Financial need will be a consideration, but not a determining factor. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 is required.


Department of Sociology Scholarship

Recipient must be an undergraduate student in good standing enrolled at SHSU and majoring in Sociology. Student recognized for past academic achievements and potential contributions to discipline of sociology.


Ruth A. De Blanc Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be an undergraduate student in good standing enrolled at SHSU in a minimum of three credit hours per semester; majoring in Sociology; and demonstrate financial need. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 is required.
