Visiting

For most students and their family, choosing a college is an important decision. We invite you to come and see for yourself why The Elliott T. Bowers Honors College may be your best choice. A visit will help you better understand our program, engaging curriculum, special benefits and numerous opportunities available to you. You can see our beautiful campus, from residence halls to laboratories to recreational facilities. Even better, you will have a chance to talk about your interests and goals and to probe deeper into the Honors application process.

Are you ready to come see us? Here are some options:



1. Open House

Open Houses are Saturday events for prospective students and parents to meet Honors College faculty and staff and learn more about the Honors College at SHSU. In conjunction with Saturdays at SAM, you will learn about the application process, academic programs, student life, and financial aid in a comprehensive, daylong program. The Honors College will have Student Ambassadors will present a panel discussion at 11:00 am and Honors students and staff will provide information at the Organizational Fair later that afternoon. The 2013-2014 Honors College Open House dates for prospective students are:

2. An Afternoon at the Elliott T. Bowers Honors College


Not able to attend an Open House? Want to visit the campus on a weekday when Fall or Spring semester classes are in session? Then plan to spend an afternoon at the Honors College. You will meet Honors staff and students, and will have the opportunity to ask questions about the academics, the extracurricular activities, and the special programs that The Elliott T. Bowers Honors College has to offer. SHSU Honors students can share their experiences and give you the student perspective. Reservations can be made by email

3. One-on-One Visit with the Elliott T. Bowers Honors College Staff

Prospective students and their families are more than welcome to schedule an individual visit with the Honors College dean or advisers. A meeting with the staff can provide you with more insight into the admission process and with the opportunity to learn more about The Elliott T. Bowers Honors College. To visit, it is preferable to make an appointment to ensure the availability of staff and to avoid busy dates. Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, year round with the exception of campus holidays. If you want to schedule an appointment, contact the Honors College Office by phone (936-294-1477) or email honors@shsu.edu.


While on campus, you may also want to attend a SHSU Campus Tour and/or on-campus housing tours. You can sign up for a SHSU Campus tour at the SHSU Visitor Center by reserving online at www.shsu.edu/visitor.


 

4. Virtual Visit


As you have already seen, you can learn a lot about our college, the curriculum, the activities and special programs, plus all the benefits of an Honors education on this webpage.
