Minor in Human Services

Human Services (Minor) Program

The Human Services minor at Sam Houston State University teaches you how to provide professional and respectful helping skills to those in need.

If you are interested in a career as a counselor, psychologist, sociologist, or in the healthcare field, the minor in Human Services will benefit you.

Human Services minors will expand their awareness of the counseling profession through courses that explore a variety of approaches to counseling, observation of client-centered play sessions structured to facilitate child development, and Adlerian approaches to parent education and marriage enhancement.

The required courses for this minor are Introduction to the Helping Relationship, Career Development, Introduction to Principles of Counseling, and Workshop in Counseling and Human Services.

Two additional courses must be chosen to complete the required hours. The choices are Introduction to Child-Centered Play Sessions, Family Relationships, Family Communication, and either Close Relationships or Marriage and the Family.
