National Honor Society for First-Year Success (Alpha Lambda Delta)

SHSU Alpha Lambda Delta

  • Alpha Lambda Delta, also known as ALD, is a national honor society for first-year college students. To be invited for membership in the ALD chapter of Sam Houston State University, students must attain a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester, and it must be their first semester at a four-year institution.
  • Invitations to join are sent out each December to students via their SHSU e-mail, as well as a letter mailed to the student and parents at the student's permanent address on file with the university. Students pay one-time dues upon joining, and their membership in Alpha Lambda Delta is lifelong.
  • As a member, students gain the benefit of belonging to a prestigious academic society, attending Wednesday meetings during the academic year, socialize and make connections with other high achieving first-year students, have the option to work on community service projects with their fellow chapter members, may run for local chapter officer positions, are eligible for local and national scholarships specific for ALD members, and may participate in other fun activities throughout their years at Sam Houston State University.

The SHSU ALD Chapter has also instituted a point system to encourage member attendance at activities, community service and meetings. Through this system, members are able to be entered into drawings for prizes at the end of each semester, as well as have an opportunity to have their graduation honor cords paid for by the SHSU Alpha Lambda Delta Chapter.
