Available Scholarships Include:

  • ED AND CELIA FRANKLIN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR NURSING: $1000 per year.  Recipient must: (1) be a full-time senior student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University; (2) be seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; (3) demonstrate financial need; and (4) have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00.

    Preference shall be given to those students who have proven to have above average aptitude for nursing, remain calm in life-threatening situations, understand the reasons for following protocols, possess above average skills in nursing observations and demonstrate the ability to converse effectively and listen carefully to patients and staff.  While it is understood that these skills are developed over time, it is hoped that through the clinical training process, members of the nursing faculty would have sufficient knowledge of the applicants’ abilities to select the most desirable recipient.

  • ‚ÄčTHE FOUNDATION OF THE NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Open to all currently enrolled nursing students across the country, the General Scholarship Program awards these scholarship funds based on a set of criteria established by the sponsor of the scholarship.  These scholarships typically reflect a specific area of specialization within the nursing profession such as oncology, critical care, or emergency nursing or a certain population of the nursing profession that is often under represented.  Awards range from $1,000 to $7,500 per academic year.

  • PROMISE OF NURSING PROGRAM: In 2002, Johnson & Johnson launched the campaign for Nursing's Future aimed at addressing the critical nursing shortage that faces this country.  Gala fundraising events sponsored by Johnson & Johnson in various states across the country celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of RN's.  One facet of this program is its support of undergraduate nursing education. Undergraduate scholarship applicants must attend a state approved school of nursing within one of the eligible Promise of Nursing states. Awards range from $1,000 to $7,500 per academic year.

  • GOOD SAMARITAN SCHOLARSHIP: The mission of the Good Samaritan Foundation (GSF) is to promote nursing as a career by providing scholarship funds directly to student nurses for their clinical nursing courses. The foundation’s goal is to alleviate the current severe shortage of nurses, not only in Houston and Texas but in the United States. $1000 per semester. Students must be in good standing with their school of nursing and must submit a complete application.

  • ALVIN AND ANGELINE JASIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND: $1,500 per year. Recipients must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing, majoring in Pre-Nursing until Sam Houston State establishes a Nursing Program, at which time the major will be Nursing. GPA of 3.00 is required.
  • RYLIE ELISE RINGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year. Recipient must be a full-time junior or senior student (at the time they receive the funding) in good standing, majoring in nursing; be admitted into the Nursing Program; demonstrate financial need. GPA of 2.50/3.00 is required. Application deadline is 09/30/11.
  • MARY ELLEN RAGSDALE NURSING SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT: $5,000 per year. Recipient must be a junior or senior student in good standing; majoring in nursing and have been accepted to the nursing program; be a graduate of Humble High School. If there are no qualified applicants from Humble High School, preference will be given to graduates from any high school in the Humble Independent School District. If there are no qualified applicants from the Humble Independent School District, then the scholarship award will be open to any qualified student. Financial need will be a consideration but not a determining factor. GPA of 3.00 is required. Application deadline is Feb. 1st.
  • ST. LUKE'S THE WOODLANDS HOSPITAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP: $2,000 per year. Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing; must have been accepted into the Bachelor of Nursing Program. Preference will be given to current employees of St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital, St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital employee's spouse, legal dependent, child or grandchild. GPA of 3.20 is required. Application deadline is Spring.
  • STEWART-JONES NURSING SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 minimum, to a full-time junior or senior student in good standing; majoring in Nursing. Must have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.00.
