Art Department Degrees

The Department of Art offers Bachelor of Fine Arts Degrees in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Photography, and Computer Animation. These are professional degrees that require students take 36 credit hours in Art Foundation and Art Core courses. BFA students must pass a Portfolio Review and take 45 advanced credit hours in their degree program. BFA degrees require that students maintain a 3.0 GPA in ARTS courses.

Students may become certified to teach art in Texas public schools by completing the Studio Art BFA and minoring in Secondary Education. The minor in Secondary Education requires 24 hours of Education courses that include student teaching supervised by a member of the Art faculty and completion of the Art Module in the Methods block in preparation for the Art state teacher certification exam.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art is a liberal arts degree. BA students take 18 credit hours of Art Foundation courses followed by 27 credit hours of upper level art courses. BA students are also required to take 14 hours of Foreign Language and a minor.
