Students who wish to become art teachers in the Texas Public School system follow the degree plan for any BFA program in the Department of Art and minor in Secondary Education in the College of Education. Students work with Art faculty who supervise their student teaching and help prepare them for the Texas all-level Certification Exam. Before students can take the Art state teacher certification exam, they must meet the following eligibility requirements: Successful completion of the BFA Portfolio Review; 3.0 or higher GPA in ARTS courses; Completion of the Methods Block of Education Courses including the Art module; Completion of the Representative Art TExES (practice test). The minor in Secondary Education requires 24 semester hours and student teaching. Contact the College of Education for more information about Teaching Certification and the minor.
