Dr. John H. Keller, Jr. '49

John H. Keller, Jr. Dr. John H. Keller Jr., is a family practice physician at the Medical Arts Clinic and chief of staff at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield. Keller received his pre-medical degree from Sam Houston State University in 1949 and went on to Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his internship at Baylor in 1954. Keller is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas and American medical associations, the Texas and American academies of family practitioners and the Freestone County Medical Society. He was recognized in 1988 for his 30-year membership in the American Board of Family Physicians and has served as director of the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Board. Keller is dedicated to his practice, as well as his family, community and church. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield and served on the church's building committee. He established, with a group of others, the hospital tax district in Freestone County and prevented the close of the Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Keller also initiated an effort to establish a Freestone and Leon County ex-student organization for SHSU, provides counseling for area students who hope to attend SHSU and initiated a project to establish a SHSU satellite campus in Fairfield.
