The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for two tenure-track positions in mathematics at the Assistant Professor level, both starting in August 2015. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to quality teaching, research, and academic service. The position carries a standard teaching load of nine credit hours per semester and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Special consideration will be given to applicants who can make significant contributions to our course offerings and research programs in the areas of analysis or applied mathematics, broadly construed. Exceptional scholars in all areas of mathematics whose research interests complement those of current faculty are also encouraged to apply.

One of the fastest growing universities in Texas, Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public institution of higher education located on a 316-acre main campus in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston in the Piney Woods region of East Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 20,000 taught by more than 700 full-time faculty. The Carnegie Commission on Higher Education classifies Sam Houston State University as a Doctoral Research University. In each of the last five years, the university was awarded "Great College to Work For," as listed by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 30 tenured or tenure track faculty positions in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics and is the current editorial home of the Mathematical Association of America's premier journal, The American Mathematical Monthly. The BA, BS, MA, & MS degrees are offered in Mathematics. In addition, the MA degree is offered in Mathematics Education. The MS degree is offered in Statistics, along with Statistics minors at both the undergraduate & graduate levels.
