Submitted by: Gregory Adams, Program Chair/ Pageant Coordinator, The Exceptional Men of The Talented Tenth Inc.
The 12th Annual Lady Dubois Scholarship pageant was held in the LSC Ballroom at Sam Houston State University, presented by the Exceptional Men of the Talented Tenth, Incorporated. The pageant is designed to not only select a young lady to represent the Talented Tenth for an entire year, but the deserving individual will also be granted a scholarship of a substantial amount.
The theme of the pageant was “Queen of The Empire,” where the empire is also known as the Exceptional Men of The Talented Tenth Inc., but for the seven contestants, the “Empire” is their platform, the things that are most important to them in life and society.
This year, the 2015-16 Lady Dubois pageant awarded a $2,800 scholarship to sophomore Angelique Price. Throughout the six-month process on her road to exceptionalism, Angelique Price was involved in two major organizations on campus, while being heavily engaged in the Huntsville community.
Talented Tenth alumni, family, friends and the student body were in attendance to encourage and motivate the contestants as they competed for the crown. There was entertainment and free food for everyone to enjoy. Talented Tenth extends their appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this event a great success! Back

Cary, North Carolina – April 8-11, 2015
Submitted by: Joshua Gabbard, Club Tennis President
The Sam Houston State University Club Tennis Team competed in the 19th United States Tennis Association Tennis on Campus National Championship. The Championship brought 64-club tennis teams together from all across the United States to compete for the title of top club team in the United States. This is the third time that Sam Houston has represented Texas at the Championship. Other teams that represented Texas included University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Christian University and Lamar.
Through the tournament SHSU Club Tennis played defending and eventual national champions University of California-Berkeley, Penn State, University of Alabama, Kennesaw State and Rutgers, and claimed victories against Western Washington and Carleton. Many of these matches were decided in just a couple of critical points. They also had some great highlights, which included their men’s singles player, Jordan Weyand, who hit a tweener passing shot for a winning against Penn State that had everyone on their feet.
Overall, the team performed well at the tournament. Considering that six of the seven players are playing their first year of club tennis, walking away with two wins at this level is a great accomplishment. Back

Community Event: March 28, 2015
Submitted by: John Brock, Alpha Tau Omega
This event was held for the community and its families to enjoy while raising funds to benefit Wounded Warriors across our nation. This was the first year Alpha Tau Omega decided to host this signature event but it proved to be a great success and will become the new event that Alpha Tau Omega will continue to put on for the community for years to come. The event raised over $1,000 from sponsorships and proceeds from over 75 individuals who attended the event. The money that was raised has been donated to the Sam Houston State University Center for Innovation and Technology, which designs and develops 3-D printed prosthetics for our nation’s Wounded Warriors and citizens. The center works with the Center for Intrepid in San Antonio that is involved with Wounded Warriors and their rehabilitation. The families in the Huntsville community and other organizations at Sam Houston State made this event a great time for a great cause. They received many compliments from the parents at the event expressing how much they liked the event and how well it was organized. Next year, they look forward to bringing out twice as many families to participate in the Easter Carnival and Egg Hunt and hope to raise many more sponsorships in order to donate more to the Wounded Warriors. Orlando, Florida – February 17-20, 2015
Submitted by: Elizabeth Chesna, Vice President, Society of Forensic Science, and Esirioghene Tasker, SFS Member
The American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) 67th Annual Scientific Meeting was held in Orlando, Florida. Several hundred people were in attendance including: students, professors, and some notable forensic scientists, including Dr. Henry Lee. On the first day, participants attended a mixer and job fair. Many of the crime labs present were from Texas, which gave everyone an opportunity to speak to them and hear what they want from job applicants. One member indicated that she plans to apply to these jobs in the near future. The rest of the week consisted of several days of poster presentations and short lectures discussing various research topics and advancements made in the field. As first time attendees, some members found it interesting to listen and learn about research and scientific studies done both in and outside of their discipline. One of the most memorable was a presentation on predicting what a person looks like using genetics and computer science. Attendees were also able to observe other students from Sam Houston; Jessica Winborn, Stephanie Basiliere, Mustapha Zein, and Lindsay Glicksberg, present their posters on their research, which is a valuable experience for those that plan to present at the next Academy meeting. Overall, the Annual Scientific Meeting was an informative and enjoyable experience. Back
