About Texas Women in Mathematics Symposium

TWIMS is one day workshop for mathematicians in Texas. The goal of TWIMS is to strengthen the network of women mathematicians in Texas and provide opportunities for collaboration and mentorship. TWIMS participants will learn about the research of other women in Texas, have the opportunity to speak about their research in a supportive environment, and talk about the issues surrounding being a woman in mathematics.

The conference consists of parallel talk sessions, a breakout session, and a keynote address.

Keynote Speaker

The 2017 TWIMS keynote speaker is Dr. Brandilyn Stigler, an associate professor at Southern Methodist University. Dr. Stigler, an algebraic biologist, is interested in uncovering the structure of gene regulatory networks. Her research interests include: mathematical biology, computational algebraic geometry, Groebner bases, systems biology, gene regulatory networks, and reverse engineering.
