The BA in Art is a liberal arts degree that provides students with an opportunity to acquire knowledge and appreciation of contemporary art and the history that informs it, an understanding of the principles and theories of art and design, and training in techniques in a variety of mediums with an emphasis on personal expression and creativity. The degree requires a minor.
Students seeking to become an art teacher in a public school in the State of Texas follow the degree plan for the BA in Art with a minor in Secondary Education. The choice of this minor allows the student to pursue certification to teach Early Childhood through twelfth grade.
Students who want to teach art in the public schools must complete a minor in Secondary Education in order to receive an all-level Teaching Certification. The minor in Secondary Education requires 24 semester hours of student teaching. Contact the College of Education for more information about Teaching Certification and the minor.
