TSI Policies
From enrollment to graduation, we are here for your entire journey at SHSU.
Developmental Education Policies
The following are applicable to all undergraduate students attending Sam Houston State University.
Students who are not exempt from the TSI and who have not earned college-ready scores on the TSI Assessment are required to follow a developmental education plan, which includes enrolling in support course work.
TSIA and TSIA2 test scores are valid for five (5) years from the test date.
Students currently enrolled in their English support course (INRW 0014 or INRW 0011) are eligible to register for one reading or writing intensive course in addition to ENGL 1301.
Students must enroll and participate in at least one support course each semester until they become college-ready in all TSI areas. Students are also required to meet with their Academic Advisor until they are considered college-ready in all TSI areas.
Once a student has received credit for completing their support course work, the student will become college-ready in the reading, writing, and/or math TSI areas. This will allow the student to proceed with freshman-level coursework without additional support for those subject areas.
Students are not required to remediate during the summer term, but they cannot register for course work that requires TSI readiness without a college-ready status.
