Tuition Rebates
Tuition Rebate Information
Undergraduates interested in the tuition rebate must apply for it before earning their degree. Only students who meet graduation requirements for the current term are eligible to submit the form.
The tuition rebate is a state-authorized benefit that provides up to a $1,000 rebate to eligible undergraduate students who complete their degree efficiently—without excessive credit hours and while meeting Texas residency requirements.
When calculating whether you exceeded the credit-hour limit for the tuition rebate, SHSU follows state guidelines that:
- Allow you to subtract (these do not count toward the limit):
- AP/CLEP/IB/ACT/SAT credits – Up to 9 hours total
- Dual credit earned while in high school – No limit
- Developmental coursework – No limit
- Military credit – No limit
- Must be added (these do count toward the limit):
- Transfer credit
- Non-transferable coursework (e.g., courses that don’t apply to your degree but were attempted)
- Repeated, dropped, or failed courses
- Study abroad, internships, and co-op credits (if attempted)
- Withdrawn or non-passing grades
You must apply during the semester you intend to graduate. The application is due by 5:00 p.m. on the last Friday of finals week.

- Email notification: You’ll get an email when rebate forms open — keep an eye on your student inbox!
- Application submission: Fill out and submit your tuition rebate application online.
- Initial denial sweep: Our team quickly filters out applications that are clearly ineligible.
- Final evaluation begins: We wait until all grades are finalized to begin your full rebate evaluation.
- Team review begins: A detailed review of each eligible application is conducted by our team.
- Decision notification: You’ll receive an email with the final decision — approved or denied.
Processing can take one to four months after graduation, depending on final transcript submissions and volume of applications.
You must be on track to complete all graduation requirements in the same semester you apply for the rebate. If not, you must reapply once your degree is officially awarded.
If you owe money to SHSU or have any unpaid loans, your rebate will be applied to those debts first before any refund is issued.
