A Strategic Approach
Sam Houston State University organizes its research enterprise around four strategic focus areas:

SHSU-COCJ to Offer Courses at South Texas Colege in Rio Grande Valley

Forensic Science Faculty Awarded Three NIJ Research Grants
The Department of Forensic Science secured three federal grants from the National Institute of Justice, advancing research in toxicology, biological evidence, and new forensic methodologies.

Doctoral Students Recognized by International Organization
SHSU doctoral students were honored for their research presentations, underscoring the global impact and quality of graduate scholarship at the university.

Euzella “Lee” Holland Ford’s Legacy Supports Advancements in Cardiology Research
A legacy gift of $25,000 is fueling cardiology research at SHSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, supporting innovations in heart disease prevention and treatment.
These areas reflect where faculty expertise, research infrastructure, and active projects are already making an impact, while also offering strong opportunities for future growth aligned with federal funding priorities.
By organizing research around shared challenges, SHSU strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration, expands student research opportunities, and positions faculty teams to pursue competitive, externally funded research with government, industry, and community partners.
