Dallas, Texas – January 1-5, 2017

Submitted by: Kaitlin Kinsey, Cru at Sam

Over 900 students attended the Cru’s Regional Winter Conference in Dallas, Texas. Participants spent the first few days of the year learning about spiritual development, how to maintain faith throughout college life, and how to be bold in order to be a light to others on campus. SHSU students, along with students from other campuses around the Red River Region, including: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, attended workshops and meetings to learn how to be leaders and role models to fellow college students. Students also had the opportunity to engage in outreach with Arlington community members. In order to find out what their needs are and in hopes that it would lead to spiritual conversations, they were asked to fill out a survey.

Cru Regional Winter Conference gave SHSU student participants an opportunity to come together and discover their purpose at SHSU. It provided a safe outlet for students to discuss desired changes at their respective universities, and provided resources such as training videos, workshops and Q&A sessions.  The focus word for this conference was “worthy.” According to Kaitlin Kinsey, “it helped us realize how worthy God is of our praise, and how He sees us as worthy because of Jesus. We want all of the students at Sam to know of this love that deems everyone worthy and spread nothing but that encouragement around campus.” This conference gave SHSU participants the confidence they need in knowing that through service, they can make an impact on the lives of fellow Bearkats, and become better leaders within their communities.
