At SHSU-COM, clinical education is more than a requirement - it’s a relationship. We collaborate with physicians across Texas who serve as clinical faculty, guiding third- and fourth-year medical students through immersive clinical rotations in a variety of specialties and settings. These practicing physicians offer essential mentorship while reinforcing the principles of osteopathic medicine and patient-centered care.

Our student doctors come prepared with a strong academic foundation, ready to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. The Clinical Education Model

SHSU-COM students enter their clinical years (OMS-III and OMS-IV) having developed a strong systems-based understanding of medicine from their first two years of medical school. Through rotations in family medicine, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, OB/GYN, and more, they learn by doing – working directly with clinical faculty in clinics and hospitals across Texas.
