Sam Houston Regional Education Consortium

SHREC supports residency and fellowship programs committed to advancing primary care and rural health across Texas.

About SHREC

The Sam Houston Regional Education Consortium (SHREC) is an ACGME-accredited institutional sponsor housed within the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM). Established in 2023, SHREC plays a vital role in expanding graduate medical education opportunities throughout East Texas.

Our mission is to support the development, accreditation, and operation of high-quality residency and fellowship programs that serve rural and medically underserved communities. SHREC programs create pathways for physicians to continue their training in Texas, with a strong foundation in primary care and a commitment to service.

Each program emphasizes:

  • Hands-on, high-quality clinical experiences
  • Comprehensive didactic education
  • Professional development and leadership training
  • Community engagement and culturally responsive care

We aim to develop compassionate, practice-ready physicians who are prepared to meet the healthcare needs of diverse communities and drive in a changing healthcare environment.
