It’s recommended that you apply a year before you plan to start. While a bachelor's degree is required before enrollment, it is not required to apply. Review TMDSAS deadlines and SHSU-COM requirements.

We prefer a Health Professions Committee Packet or Evaluation (HPCP/HPE). If that’s unavailable, we’ll accept at least three letters from faculty, physicians, supervisors, or mentors who can speak to your academic performance and commitment to healthcare.

Yes. Invitations are based on a holistic review of your full application. Interviews are held between July and December (sometimes into January).

Interview Day includes two face-to-face interviews and a written assessment. These may be in person or virtual. Details are provided once you receive an invitation to interview.

SHSU-COM follows the TMDSAS Match process (click the link to learn more). 

SHSU-COM uses rolling admissions after the TMDSAS Match. Seats are filled continuously as they become available.

SHSU-COM uses a holistic review. We do not have minimum GPA or MCAT cutoffs. Review the full process on the How to Apply page.

Every part of the application is considered equally: academic metrics, life experiences, service, cultural awareness, motivation, and alignment with SHSU-COM’s mission.

Students are required to complete core rotations in surgery, medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, OB/GYN, emergency medicine, rural health, and electives in years 3 and 4. View full details on the Curriculum page.

Selectives are aligned with our curriculum. Electives offer broader options and allow students to create custom learning experiences, including non-clinical and specialty tracks.

Only updates made through TMDSAS are accepted. SHSU-COM does not accept external documents or letters outside of that platform.
