Medical and Interprofessional Education
Where Collaboration Strengthens Medical Education
The Department of Medical and Interprofessional Education brings together educators, clinicians and academic leaders to strengthen teaching and learning at the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Through curriculum development, faculty development, educational scholarship and continuous quality improvement, the department supports student doctor success at every stage of medical education.
Learning Across Healthcare Professions
Providing excellent patient care requires physicians to understand how to work alongside professionals across healthcare disciplines. The department creates hands-on opportunities for student doctors to learn with and from future and practicing healthcare professionals.
Through partnerships with SHSU health professions programs, clinical partners and community organizations, students build the communication, teamwork and professional skills needed to contribute to patient-centered care teams.
Supporting Lifelong Learning
The department’s work extends beyond the classroom. It coordinates professional development opportunities for clinical preceptors, alumni, community healthcare professionals and other partners.
These programs help healthcare professionals strengthen their knowledge and skills, build connections across disciplines and continue learning throughout their careers. They also deepen the college’s relationships with the people and organizations working together to serve communities across Texas.
