WHAT TO EXPECT

SDI offers two specialized tracks: contemporary and commercial. Each day begins with two high-energy technique classes, followed by an afternoon dedicated to the creative process of learning a new original dance work. The intensive concludes with a performance in the Montague Dance Theater.

The Contemporary Track is designed for dancers interested in pursuing professional concert work, academia, and somatic-based practices. Led by Department of Dance faculty member Travis Lake, this track emphasizes refined technique, artistry, musicality, and the creative process. Dancers will engage in rigorous training and learn original choreography rooted in the aesthetics of contemporary concert work designed to develop the artistic voice.

The Commercial Track is geared toward dancers interested in performance careers in cruise lines, television, and professional sports organizations such as NBA and NFL teams. Led by NFL cheerleader Michelle Maldonado, this track focuses on versatility, performance quality, precision, and the high-energy style required in the commercial dance industry.
