As a Dance student at SHSU, you’ll find opportunities to perform, collaborate, and grow as an artist. Student organizations can help connect you with peers and professionals, helping you build community and prepare for a career in movement and performance.
Additional Opportunities
SHSU Dance offers students a wide range of performance and choreographic opportunities each year. Including both faculty and student choreographed concerts, there are shows tailored for both undergraduate and graduate dance students.
Auditions for the concerts are held each semester and all dance majors and minors are welcome to audition.
The Department of Dance regularly welcomes guest artists, choreographers, and companies to campus, offering students opportunities to learn from and collaborate with professionals from around the world. Through master classes, workshops, and commissioned works, students gain valuable insight into diverse creative processes while expanding their artistic perspectives and professional networks.
SHSU Dance provides students with opportunities to participate in conferences, festivals, and intensives such as the American College Dance Association (ACDA) and the Texas Dance Improvisation Festival (TDIF). With close access to the Houston arts community, students also engage in a wide range of performance and choreographic experiences, building connections and broadening their understanding of the field.
