The Department of Dance provides students with access to professional facilities that support every stage of the creative process—from daily technique classes and rehearsals to performances, costuming, and research. Each space is designed to foster collaboration, artistry, and professional growth.
Mary Ella Montague Dance Theater
Equipped with professional lighting, sound, and backstage support. This venue gives students the chance to perform in a professional setting that bridges studio work with live performance.
Costume Shop
The costume shop allows for the design, construction, and alteration of costumes for productions. Here, movement and design come together to enhance performance.
Dance Library
Located in GPAC 160, the Dance Library houses a video archive of student and faculty performances, dance research resources, and equipment such as cameras, tripods, and projectors for student use.
Dressing Rooms
Fully equipped with lockers, showers, and large dressing mirrors with lighting, dressing rooms provide students with professional-level preparation space for rehearsals and performances.
Pilates Studio
A dedicated Pilates studio outfitted with reformers, towers, mats, and small apparatus supports student training in conditioning, alignment, and injury prevention. This space complements dance technique by building strength and flexibility.
Performance Opportunities
From student concerts to faculty and guest artist productions, SHSU Dance students take the stage throughout the year. Perform in major concerts such as Dance Spectrum in Concert and gain experience that prepares you for a professional career. Every performance is a chance to grow as an artist and share your work with the community.
