See some of the the various training topics and resources we've previously offered to support faculty development and digital teaching skills.

The Blackboard Basics digital teaching webinars will help SHSU instructors master the essentials of using Blackboard. Participants learn to set up courses, use communication tools effectively, assess student progress, and apply best practices for engaging and student-centered learning environments.

Blackboard Ultra: Adding and Managing Course content

This course is the first in a four-part series that will ensure you are well acquainted with Blackboard @ SHSU. Become familiar with the Blackboard environment including: layout, navigation, adding, editing, and deleting content. Attendees will gain control over their course’s navigation and learn how to interact with courses in an instructor role.

Blackboard Ultra: Communication Tools

This course is the second in a four-part series that will ensure you are well acquainted with Blackboard @ SHSU. Learn how to communicate and collaborate with your students using Blackboard’s onboard set of tools. Announcements, Notifications, Email, Discussion Boards, and Journals will all be covered.

Blackboard Ultra: Tests, Quizzes, and Assignments

This course is the third in a four-part series that will ensure you are well acquainted with Blackboard @ SHSU. Attendees will learn how to assess student progress with Blackboard Assignments, Turnitin Assignments, Test/Quiz/Survey Creation and how each of these interact with the Blackboard Grade Center.

Blackboard Ultra: Grading Student Work

This session is the fourth in a four-part series that will equip the savvy Blackboard instructor with the ability to grade student work (submitted in Blackboard or collected in class). Topics covered in this session include, gradebook views, flexible grading, overall course grading, and course analytics..

The Assessment Series equips SHSU instructors with the skills to create and manage effective assessments online. Topics include designing assignments, quizzes, and surveys, using tools like Turnitin and the Grade Center, and applying best practices for reliable and valid evaluations of student progress. Instructors will gain strategies to assess student success and enhance learning outcomes.

Blackboard Learn Assessment

This course will ensure you are well acquainted with Blackboard @ SHSU. Attendees will learn how to assess student progress with Blackboard Assignments, Turnitin Assignments, Test/Quiz/Survey Creation and how each of these interact with the Blackboard Grade Center.

Strategies & Practices for Effective Assessment

This three week online course takes an in-depth look at methods to increase success when it comes to evaluating students along with a look at the tools Blackboard employs to monitor, evaluate and report on student assessment. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: Hallmarks for Effective Assessment, Grade Center Basics, Best Practices for Effective Assessment, Grading Periods, Grade Columns, test Reliability and Validity and more. Effective Assessment Strategies and Practices course completers will receive a certification upon successful completion.

The Engagement Series helps SHSU instructors create more engaging online courses by exploring strategies for designing compelling content, incorporating multimedia, and fostering collaboration. The focus is on building online communities, enhancing student interaction, and implementing methods to boost engagement and success.

Designing Engaging Content

This self-paced online course helps SHSU instructors develop strategies for designing and organizing content to enhance student engagement in Blackboard courses. By focusing on effective content structure, participants will gain practical tools to create more interactive and engaging learning experiences.

Multimedia in Your Blackboard Courses

This course provides the Blackboard instructor with the knowledge and skills in both the acquisition and implementation of multimedia for online/face-to-face and hybrid courses. Technologies and best practices are examined in the context of student engagement and success. Topics covered include:

  • Images in Blackboard courses
  • YouTube videos in Blackboard courses
  • Video/Audio/Screen Capture with Kaltura CaptureSpace Lite
  • Interactive Video Quizzing with Kaltura
  • Best Practices in implementing multimedia in Blackboard Courses
Building Online Communities

Communication and collaboration are key facets to this online certification course. In this course, we will further explore some of the communication and collaboration tools Blackboard Ultra has to offer. You will have ample opportunity to communicate, gain feedback and share ideas with your colleagues’ using of the tools. This online course covers:

  • Online communities and the Instructor’s Role
  • Best Practice and Learning Theory Around Discussion Questions
  • Groups in Blackboard Courses
  • Grading in the Collaborative Space

These Miscellaneous Sessions cover a range of topics to enhance online teaching, including tools for improving course accessibility, integrating multimedia, and utilizing web conferencing, among others.

Blackboard Ally: Instructor Use

This online, self-paced course allows instructors to learn how to utilize the Blackboard Ally tool to improve course content accessibility. Online materials and activities will guide participants through the instructor workflow, how to interpret accessibility scores/reports, universal design for learning and how to improve file accessibility.
