Your Official Start to SHSU

We have officially moved to two ceremonies! Please choose your ceremony time based on your college.
1:00 pm: College of Business Administration, College of Health Science, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and College of Arts and Media
3:30 pm: College of Criminal Justice, College of Education, College of Osteopathic Medicine, and College of Science and Engineering Technology
New students, families, and guests are invited to join President Alisa White and the university community for a ceremony commemorating the beginning of new students’ academic journey. New Student Convocation serves as the ceremonial start for our new students, just as Commencement serves as the ceremonial finish. New Student Convocation also serves as Day 1 of Bearkat Kickoff!
As we embark on a new semester, and for you, the start of your years-to-come as a college student, we are excited to celebrate your achievement in this new phase of your life.
Know Before You Go
Here are some important steps to remember about this year’s New Student Convocation.
At New Student Convocation you will:
- Participate in a traditional pinning ceremony.
- Enjoy a smartphone light show.
- Be officially inducted to your college by your college Dean.
- And much more!
Meet your Bearkat Kickoff Leader at your assigned Bearkat Kickoff small group room and you will walk over as a group. Parents, family, and guests can report straight to the coliseum. (When you check-in for Bearkat Kickoff, you will be given your small group room location.)
Please see the coliseum entry requirements for prohibited items and bag policy for entry into the coliseum.
Students are expected to attend and will confirm attendance to the 2025 New Student Convocation at New Student Orientation.
