First-Year Learning Communities and UNIV 1101: Bearkat U
First-Year Learning Communities
All incoming students with fewer than 30 credit hours will be part of a First-Year Learning Community during their first semester. You’ll take classes with students in your major, build connections early, and get support from faculty and staff who want to see you succeed.
- Earn higher grades
- Opportunities to facilitate connections with peers and faculty
- Stronger start in their major
It is an expectation that all first-year students with less than thirty credit hours attending in-person classes will participate in a First-Year Learning Community during their first semester.
When you meet with your academic advisor, they’ll show you the block scheduling options connected to your major. After academic advising, you’ll register for your math and English courses (if needed) and then add your FLC block. Peer mentors are available to help if you need assistance.
