The FORWARD Program serves students from foster care or who experience housing insecurity. We serve as liaisons and advocate alongside you as you pursue your degree.

Scholarships

All Sam Houston State University scholarships are located in Scholarships4Kats. (https://www.shsu.edu/dept/financial-aid/aid/scholarships) The FORWARD Program sponsors a competitive Former Foster Youth scholarships only available to students with experience in the foster care system.

Student Money Management: Financial Coaching

Student Money Management offers personalized, private 1:1 financial coaching on personal budgets, paying for school, credit/debit, and other financial literacy topics.

Transitional Medicaid

People who were in foster care on their 18th birthday and are now age 18 through 20 may receive Medicaid.  For more information, call 2-1-1, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time.

-Stay updated on current events and opportunities specific to former fosters, orphans, wards of the court and homeless students.

                -($500 for fall & spring semesters)
