Annual Events

After graduation, SHSU alumni continue to fulfill the university's motto "The measure of a Life is it's Service."  The Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award and Service Award recognizes those Bearkats who made significant contributions to their profession, community, or alma mater. 

Each year, a small number of exceptional alumni are honored at the Distinguished Alumni Gala with the Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Young Alumni, and Alumni Service Awards.  The Distinguished Alumni Gala is typically held the Friday of Homecoming weekend each fall. 

Each spring the SHSU Alumni Association hosts its annual golf tournament to foster growth and engagement for the Alumni Association.  This fundraiser helps to supports alumni activities and operations year-round.

The SHSU Alumni Association hosts an annual Life Member Celebration dinner, early each spring to honor it’s newest Life Members from the previous year, and acts as a celebration for all Life Members.  This event typically takes place in January/February of each year and New Life Members are recognized with a plaque at the ceremony. 

Sponsorships are a valuable event underwriting opportunity the SHSU Alumni Association affords their patrons.  Sponsorships are offered for most all events hosted by the SHSU Alumni Association and consist of various benefits and special recognition opportunities for alumni who help financially support those events.
