Eligibility Requirements
Review Honors College eligibility details for prospective students of all backgrounds, including freshmen, transfer, and current SHSU students.
Incoming Freshmen
Incoming Freshmen are qualified to apply for Honors if they meet ONE of the following requirements:
- 1270 SAT or
- 27 ACT composite score or
- Top 10% of graduating class or
- 3.5 Unweighted GPA
- Will be enrolled full time in mostly face-to-face courses


Transfer
Incoming transfer students are eligible for Honors if they meet the following requirements:
- 3.25 cumulative GPA
- 4 long semesters remaining before graduation
- Will be enrolled full time in mostly face-to-face courses
Current SHSU students
Current SHSU students are eligible for Honors if they meet the following requirements:
- 3.25 cumulative GPA
- 4 long semesters remaining before graduation
- Will be enrolled full time in mostly face-to-face courses

Application Deadlines
- Fall March 1 - Scholarship priority July 1 - Final deadline
- Spring November 1 - Scholarship priority December 1 - Final deadline
Application Materials
Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students
- Honors Application
- One recommendation form from a current teacher our professor. Our software will automatically send this to the reference you enter on your application
- A short (500-750 word) essay on how you live out one Honors Pillar (research, leadership, community service, or global scholarship)
- A resume (highlight achievements, skills, community volunteerism, and research)
- An unofficial transcript
Current SHSU Students
- Honors Application
- All other documents are waived
Holistic Review
If you feel that you are eligible to join, but your GPA or standardized test scores fall below the minimum requirements, you are still encouraged to apply. These are only a few of the many requirements considered during the selection process. To request a holistic review, please email our office for further information.
