SHSU Meat Slab (Agriculture Center)

Located just off I-45 at 2500 Avenue M, Huntsville, TX 77340, the SHSU Meat Slab serves as the hub for equine, meat science, and horticulture programs within the School of Agricultural Sciences.

The complex features an equine riding arena, stalling facilities, and an automated horse walker that support the Equine Science program. It also houses a USDA-inspected Meats Lab with the capacity to process beef, pork, poultry, goat, and lamb. In partnership with Gibbs Ranch, the lab produces BearKat Beef—a hormone-free, antibiotic-free, all-natural, university-raised beef product.

In addition, greenhouses at the center provide hands-on learning opportunities for students in the Plant and Soil Science program. Together, these facilities give students practical, workforce-ready training that complements classroom instruction.
