Gibbs Ranch
Gibbs Ranch – The Future of Agricultural Sciences at SHSU
Sam Houston State University has been a leader in agricultural education since 1909, when it became one of the first institutions in the nation authorized to train agriculture teachers. Today, with more than 1,000 majors, the School of Agricultural Sciences is among the largest non-land-grant agriculture programs in the U.S.
Gibbs Ranch: A Legacy and a Vision
Donated through the generosity of Wilbourn Sandford “W.S.” Gibbs, Gibbs Ranch has grown into a cornerstone of SHSU’s agricultural programs. Once home to W.S. Gibbs’s registered Brahman cattle, the ranch now serves as the hub for innovation, research, and hands-on learning.
